"Songs of the Season" is a multi-cultural musical celebration of the winter holidays including Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. The music include selections from general Yuletide music, Christmas, Gospel Christmas, Chanukah and Kwanzaa. Songs are sung in English, Hebrew, Ladino, Spanish, German, Swedish and Yoruban. The origins of the holidays are explained, and to make the program more festive, the Performers can dress in Victorian period costumes. The music can be completely secular if requested.
Robin and Cecilia met at the Guitar Workshop in Roslyn, NY, a legendary music school where they were both guitar students and eventually became teachers. In response to a booking request back in 2000, they put together a concert program based on their respective holiday traditions and "Songs of the Season" was born. Robin is Jewish and grew up with the music of Hanukkah and Eastern Europe. Cecilia's mother is Chilean, so her Christmases had a Hispanic influence. Their love of folk music led them to incorporate other ethnic music from Germany, France, Sweden, Puerto Rico, Africa and the Baltics into their program. They are individual musicians and teachers as well with their own followings.
They both sing and play guitars, ukulele, pennywhistle and various percussion instruments including jingle bells. Audience participation is encouraged! This is a wonderful, fun (and educational!) holiday program that engages people from all walks of life, and all ages.
